چکیده

Vibrationally resolved electronic spectra are reported for the diatomic cations Tel and Bi: using the technique of resonance-enhanced photodissociation spectroscopy (REPD). These ions are generated by laser vaporization in a pulsed nozzle source, jet-cooled, mass-selected with a reflectron time-of-flight spectrometer, and dissociated on resonance with a tunable dye laser. Electronic excitation spectra are recorded by monitoring the appearance of the fragment atomic cation as the dissociation laser is tuned through vibronic resonances. Analysis of these new spectra yields vibrational constants for the ground and excited state ions. Potential applications of this dissociation spectroscopy method for polyatomic clusters are discussed.

Laser Photodissociation Spectroscopy of Mass - selected Metal Clusters

Electronic spectra are reported for the metal cluster (Tef) and metal cluster complex (Ag+-benzene, Mg'-C02) cations. These ions are generated by laser vaporization in a pulsed nozzle source, jet-cooled, mass-selected with a reflectron time-of-flight spectrometer, and dissociated on resonance with a tunable dye laser. Electronic excitation spectra are recorded by monitoring the appearance of th...

Vibrational spectroscopy and density functional theory of transition-metal ion-benzene and dibenzene complexes in the gas phase.

Metal-benzene complexes of the form M(benzene)(n) (M = Ti, V, Fe, Co, Ni) are produced in the gas-phase environment of a molecular beam by laser vaporization in a pulsed nozzle cluster source. These complexes are photoionized with an ArF excimer laser, producing the corresponding cations. The respective mono- and dibenzene complex ions are isolated in an ion-trap mass spectrometer and studied w...

Infrared photodissociation spectra of mass selected homoleptic nickel carbonyl cluster cations in the gas phase.

Infrared spectra of mass-selected homoleptic nickel carbonyl cluster cations including dinuclear Ni2(CO)7(+) and Ni2(CO)8(+), trinuclear Ni3(CO)9(+) and tetranuclear Ni4(CO)11(+) are measured via infrared photodissociation spectroscopy in the carbonyl stretching frequency region. The structures are established by comparison of the experimental spectra with simulated spectra derived from density...

Photofragment spectroscopy of covalently bound transition metal complexes: a window into C–H and C–C bond activation by transition metal ions

Transition metal cations Mþ and metal oxide cations MOþ can activate C–H and C–C bonds in hydrocarbons. In this review, we discuss our studies of the electronic spectroscopy and dissociation dynamics of the intermediates, reactants and products of these reactions using photofragment spectroscopy. Results are presented on the spectroscopy of the intermediates of methane activation by FeOþ, as we...

Spectroscopy of metal ion complexes: gas-phase models for solvation.

Weakly bound metal ion complexes are produced in molecular beams and studied with mass-selected laser photodissociation spectroscopy. The metal ions Mg+ and Ca+ are the focus of these studies because they have a single valence electron and strong atomic resonance lines in convenient wavelength regions. Weakly bound complexes of these ions with rare-gas atoms and small molecules are prepared wit...
